FROM CUBA
City in the dark

HAVANA, Cuba - March 6 (Ahmed Rodríguez Albacia, Jóvenes si Censura / www.cubanet.org) - At night, the streets of Santa Clara, a city of 250,000 in central Cuba, allows passersby to star gaze in perfect darkness, street lights are so few and far between.

The outlying districts suffer the same fate as the center of the city: no lights. The only place with a few lamps is the Leoncio Vidal park in the center of the city.

Interestingly, there is a constant police presence in the park every night. But citizens of Santa Clara rarely see police patrols in the dark streets.

Maybe police don't like the darkness anymore the the residents who have to walk the streets at night.
