Two exceed sentence while awaiting trial

CIEGO DE AVILA, October 18 (Abel Escobar Ramírez/www.cubanet.org) - Two men presumably implicated in acts of vandalism have spent two years and eight months in jail awaiting trial. In preliminary documents in the case, the prosecution was asking the court to impose a two year sentence.

One of the men, Elizardo Calvo, is accused of breaking store windows in Camagüey; the other, Raidel Arosteguí, was implicated because presumably he refused to identify the parties involved, although he said he did not know them nor did he see anyone break the glass store fronts. Arosteguí was a member of the Communist Youth organization at the time of his arrest.

Both men are held in the Cerámica Roja prison in Camagüey province.
