Government targets underground economy operators
SANTA CLARA, Cuba - June 7 (Belkis Rodríguez

- Police and Finance Ministry inspectors
confiscated merchandise and production tools
from underground economy operators in a
series of raids starting June 3.
Major Orlando Ramírez, the provincial
chief of police, listed as confiscated 76
packages of noodles, 89 pounds of noodles,
760 nylon bags with labels from a factory
in Cienfuegos, 70 pounds of flour, a scale,
and a machine for making noodles, all at
one location.
At another location, Ramírez said,
police confiscated a moonshine still. In
the take, police listed five plastic 55-gallon
drums full of fermenting spirit, two thermometers,
two cooling coils, a stainless steel vat
and 25 gallons of spirits ready-to-drink.
In other raids around the city, police confiscated
104 sacks of soy, 50 bags of chicken parts,
and 710 eggs.
Police remanded all suspects apprehended
in the raids for trial.
