FROM CUBA
Dissident excommunicated by Church of Christ

SANTA CLARA, April 11 (Yilybed Santana Quirós, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) Preachers Edelton Villa and Luis Pedraza, of the Church of Christ, told Rosario Irene Barata on April 10 that she was excommunicated and barred from all church activities until she gave up her activities as a dissident from the line of the Cuban government.

Barata is a member of the Democratic Christian Movement. Her husband, Alfredo Martínez, who had been a preacher in the church, was barred from preaching. Martínez does not belong to any dissident group.

"Neither husband or wife will be accepted or allowed back into the congregation until she gives up her activities as a dissident from the government, and this fact is verified by the Department of State Security," said Villa and Pedraza.
