The East African Standard (Nairobi). AllAfrica.com, July 14, 2004.

Nairobi - After a week of waiting and anxiety, the women's national volleyball team finally jets out today for a two-week training stint in Cuba.

Assistant coach David Lug'aho said the visa problems had been settled and the team will leave at 11.30 pm aboard a Swiss Air plane. The team will make a stopover in Paris.

"It is now confirmed and the team will jet out today to Cuba for a two-week training stint," he said. He said the players were upbeat after learning of the confirmation for they have been waiting since last Friday.

"We are very happy that the trip has been confirmed now. We just hope that things will go as per the schedule," said booster Judy Serenge. She said they need the trip badly as it will prepare them for the Olympics.

Similar sentiments were echoed by upcoming Janet Wanja and Nancy Nyongesa.

Kenya will open their campaign against the hosts Greeceon August 14. Kenya is in Pool "A" together with Greece, Korea, Japan, Brazil and Italy. Pool B comprises China, Dominica Republic, Cuba, Germany, Russia and the United States.
