Havana neighborhood without water for five
months
HAVANA, Cuba, December 13 (Roberto Santana
Rodríguez www.cubanet.org) - Las
Delicias del Diezmero, in the Havana municipality
of San Miguel del Padrón, has been
without running water for five months now,
due to a broken pump motor at the El Gato
aqueduct, said resident Margarita Franco.
Authorities send tank trucks around to
alleviate the problem, but they are not
enough and fights break out between neighbors.
A few months back, Franco said, one resident
died of a heart attack during one of these
fights.
A representative of the local government
said the solution was to bring in more tankers,
that the budget had been approved some time
back, and that she had been told at meetings
that the problem would be solved.
