HAVANA, March 28 (Ernesto Roque / www.cubanet.org) - Two recently-arrested
dissidents are being charged under a law that provides for sentences of from 10
to 20 years in jail or even death for "crimes against the security of the
State."
Osvaldo Alfonso Valdés and Héctor Maseda Gutiérrez, the
president and vice president of the Cuban Democratic Liberal Party,
respectively, were told to secure the services of an attorney, said Claudia Márquez,
Valdés' wife.
Márquez said captain Carlos Martínez, from the Department of
State Security, informed her that her husband will be charged in case 351/2003,
under article 91 of Law 62 of the penal code.
Dissident lawyer Wilfredo Vallín classified the charges as "extremely
serious."
