HAVANA, March 24 (Manuel A. Brito López, Grupo Decoro /
www.cubanet.org) - Dissident Alfonso Mesa, who was recently evicted from his
home along with his wife and 11-year-old son, threatened to pitch camp in front
of Communist Party headquarters in Sagua la Grande unless the order to evict him
is rescinded.
Mesa said housing authorities ordered his eviction after he spent 53 days in
Russia, where he had been invited by a friend. When he returned, he said, he
found his home sealed with all his belongings inside.
"Of course, we broke the seal, and immediately police captain Raúl
Pino came up and threatened to arrest us, because we were breaking the law,"
said Mesa.
"After more than six months fighting in the courts, we were declared
'illegals' and the eviction took place February 22. I have exhausted all legal
avenues. If I don't get a concrete answer from provincial authorities, we are
going to pitch camp with all our belongings in front of party headquarters,"
he said.
Mesa added that "the measure is arbitrary and unconscionable, so I
wouldn't doubt that State Security were behind this, trying to make me give up
my struggle with the dissidence."
