Anti-government slogans in midst of repression

HAVANA, March 24 (Carlos Serpa Maceira, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - An independent library opened in the town of Navajas, Matanzas province, even as the government shuts down similar initiatives of the civil society movement in Cuba.

The library opened with 280 books, which are to be available to any local residents that care to use them, said its director Enrique Pérez. It is named after Henry M. Reeve, "the Little Englishman," actually an American who fought in Cuba's war for independence in the second half of the 19th century.
