Private cars confiscated

HOLGUÍN, July 18 (www.cubanet.org) - Authorities in Sagua de Tánamo, Holguín province, are in the process of confiscating five 1950s vintage American cars because their owners used them to transport passengers without a license.

State transportation inspectors say the owners had each accumulated three violations of the statute, incurring fines of between 700 and 1,500 pesos.

Owners say the government refuses them licenses when they apply. "We have to invest thousands of pesos to maintain the cars, and we have to work clandestinely to maintain our families, because the government denies our application for the license to transport passengers," said one.
