Elective surgery suspended indefinitely in Havana hospitals

HAVANA, January 21 (Adrián Leiva Pérez, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) - All surgical procedures in Havana hospitals have been suspended indefinitely because the Provincial Blood Bank doesn’t have enough blood on hand, said a source who asked not to be identified.

At present, hospitals are performing only emergency surgery in cases of life and death.

The measure by the Public Health Ministry has generated complaints by patients who expected to have surgery in January. There has been no word on when the service will be offered again.
