Penicillin withdrawn from pharmacies and hospitals in Guines

GUINES, Cuba, Dec. 31 (Jose Izquierdo, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) – The Public Health Ministry withdrew thousands of doses of pencillin from pharmacies and drugstores in this Havana province city.

The order was given after some patients being treated with the drug in Havana suffered from poisoning.

"We don't know the seriousness of the upset caused by the penicillin but we' ve received precise orders from the ministry to withdraw existing stocks in hospitals, pharmacies and other locations," said a high-ranking health official who spoke anonymously.

No reaction to penicillin has been reported in Guines.
