CIENFUEGOS, September 26 (Dr. Sunset Nogueras) - The Department of State
Security in Cienfuegos is investigating the cases of physicians who presumably
have left Cuba by irregular means.
Agents have questioned relatives of physicians who have recently left the
island by hiding their professional standing and moving to a different address
to elude migratory controls and obtain an exit visa.
The controversy concerns the Cuban Public Health Ministry regulation which
requires health professionals to serve at the government's pleasure anywhere
from two to five years after they have requested permission to leave the
country.
Every indication is that the number of cases of health professionals who
have somehow eluded the regulation is on the increase. The recent interest
displayed by State Security has led many to think that the loopholes may not be
open for long.
