State Stores A Few Cigarrettes Short Of A Pack

HAVANA, October 18 (María Elena Rodríguez, Cuba-Verdad) – Stores selling goods under the government rationing system are more and more frequently selling cigarrette packs with fewer than the 20 cigarrettes they are supposed to contain.

"Sometimes they are up five cigarrettes short," said Reinaldo Ruiz Morales, a human rights activist.

The price of a pack of cigarrettes is 7 pesos; the average Cuban salary 221 pesos a month.
