PINAR DEL RIO, October 2 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI)
Dissident Ernesto La O Ramos was exonerated by the Popular Court in San Juan y
Martínez township. La O stood accused of "disobedience and
resistance."
Seventy eight days after receiving a beating by a State Security officer who
calls himself Roberto Rivera Vena, La O was told of the court's decision by
judge Pedro Figueroa Sobrino, who warned him to stay clear of dissident
activities which could land him in trouble again.
Officer Rivera has not been prosecuted for the beating of La O, although
there have been numerous complaints against him for violence and abuse of
authority.
