HAVANA, March 8 (Oswaldo de Céspedes, CPI) - Dr. Oscar Elías Biscet has been transferred to a prison in Holguín province, eastern Cuba, his wife was told today.
At 7 a.m. this morning Biscet's wife, Elsa Morejón Hernández, received a telephone call from Major Francisco Estrada, of the Department of State Security, who informed her that Biscet had been transferred to the prison in Holguín to serve his three year sentence. As to
visits, the official said the family would be notified later.
Biscet was condemned February 25 by a municipal tribunal in the city of Havana for "public disorder," "disrespect to patriotic symbols," and "instigating delinquency."
Dr. Biscet had told his wife last week that he would not appeal to the Communist tribunals and that he would declare himself to be in civil disobedience inside the prison.
Biscet's wife is concerned about the transfer, she told CPI, since the distance and the obstacles to transportation from Havana, where they live, present difficulties to Biscet's parents, who are elderly and in poor health.
